Chad is half-Japanese, half-Mexican; when his parents died, he was sent to Mexico to live with his Grandfather, who taught him to protect people and become kinder than everyone else. As a result, he is reluctant to fight unless he's protecting someone else.
Chad is very quiet and exceptionally strong, able to withstand an i-beam falling on him with minimal injuries. After his own spiritual powers were awakened, he began training with Orihime and has since powered-up. He's also quite smart, placing 11th out of a class of 200 in test rankings.
How he supports himself is currently unknown but, like Orihime, he lives alone.
